Coach Broadway is a native of Jacksonville, Alabama. She graduated from Pleasant Valley High School in 1989 where she was a 5 year letter winner in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She received All State honors in all 3 sports as well as being named Most Outstanding Graduating Senior.
Her collegiate career started with a scholarship to play basketball at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. By her sophomore year, she was playing volleyball as well. While at UAH, she was named player of the week numerous times as well as team’s Most Valuable Player, Best Offensive Player, Best Defensive Player, All Gulf South Conference, and All Academic Gulf South Conference. She received the highest GPA Award 7 times, Citizenship Award, Outstanding Leader in Sports and Fitness, and Outstanding Secondary Education Student. In 1994, she was named NCAA Woman of the Year for Alabama. Mrs. Broadway was also involved in numerous other activities at UAH, such as UAH Lancer Club, Peer Counselor, Omicron Delta Kappa, Psi Chi, Sigma Tau Delta, Homecoming Court, and was a Resident Advisor.
This year Coach Broadway will begin her 30th year teaching and coaching. She spent the first 26 years of her career at Grissom High School. This is her Third year at DAR where she teaches 7th grade ELA and is the head volleyball coach.

1998 and 2009 - State Finalist: 1996, 1997, 1999, and 2000 - Huntsville City Coach of the Year: 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2005
Huntsville Times All-Metro Coach of the Year: 1996, 1998, 2001, and 2002 - Birmingham News and Huntsville Times Coach of the Year in 2003 - North-South All Star Team Coach: 1998 and 2003 - Overall coaching record: 1,257-395
She is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches’ Association and the Alabama Volleyball Coaches’ Association where she served as president in 2000 & 2001.
Tanya Wigley Broadway is one of the winningest high school volleyball coaches in AHSAA history and was inducted into the 2022 Huntsville- Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame & she was also inducted into the 2023 UAH Hall of Fame!
She is married to Jonathan Broadway and they are the proud parents of Landon, Hudson, and Tinsley who all attend DAR schools. Tanya’s father, Wayne Wigley, is often seen at games and events with the team. DAR Volleyball is very fortunate to have a coach with such a supportive family as a part of our program!
